Uncertainty Domain: Risk vs Issue
Quickly distinguish uncertain future events from current problems so you apply the right response on exam scenarios.
Core Distinction
A risk is uncertain and may happen; an issue is happening now or has already happened. The exam frequently tests this distinction by tempting you to treat active problems as risks or to ignore emerging risks until they become expensive issues. Correct diagnosis drives correct action.
How to Classify Quickly
Risk Language
- Could occur
- Probability and impact discussed
- Response strategy planned in advance
Issue Language
- Is occurring now
- Immediate impact already visible
- Needs containment and owner now
Decision Flow Under Time Pressure
- 1Ask: has the event already occurred or started occurring?
