Lesson 3 of 3

Integrating Change During Execution

Handle live change requests during delivery by balancing urgency, governance, and downstream impact.

Why Mid-Execution Change Is Tricky

Execution-phase changes can improve value or destabilize delivery. PMP scenarios test whether you can assess impact rapidly, involve decision-makers correctly, and communicate consequences transparently. The best answer protects both value and control.

Live Change Integration Sequence

  1. 1Clarify business rationale and urgency for the request.
  2. 2Evaluate impacts on committed work and constraints.
  3. 3Route decision through the correct governance path.
  4. 4Update team plans and stakeholder expectations.
  5. 5Monitor execution closely for secondary effects.

Change Handling Patterns

Uncontrolled

  • Implements immediately due to senior pressure.
  • Documents later if time permits.

Controlled and Responsive

  • Assesses and decides quickly with proper authority.
  • Communicates tradeoffs and plan updates immediately.
Exam Insight

Look for options that combine rapid responsiveness with formal decision discipline. Either extreme alone is usually wrong.

PMP Decode Rule

During execution, integrate change deliberately so speed does not create hidden debt.
